Melanie’s Punctum

For me, what really drew me to this picture–and it wasn’t the little kids smoking–was the look in the middle kids eyes, the newspaper under the one kids arm, and the wrapped up thumb of the middle child’s hand on the other kids shoulder. The fact that the kid’s eyes speak of anguish that only experience and hardships could muster. He is too young to have those eyes. Also, the mannerisms of the other child where the newspaper is folded under his arm is indicative of an older generation. Lastly, the wrapped up thumb just makes me wonder what exactly he has been doing to get such an injury.
